Donald H. Smith age 60, of Havaco, who peacefully departed this life on Saturday, December 2, 2017 in the comforts of his home.  He was born December 17, 1956 in Welch and the son of the late John H. and Helen (Baytops) Smith.  He was a 1976 graduate of East Welch High School, where he played basketball, a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the National Guard.  He attended Mt. Zion Church of Christ all of his life.  For many years he was employed at Wendy's Restaurant in Welch, as a cook.  His most favorite pastimes were spent watching television; especially his team, the San Francisco 49ers and playing horseshoes.  Donald was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.  His pleasant, gentle spirit endeared him to many.  He will be lovingly remembered by his children:  Mahalie "Kidada" Collins of Havaco, Rory Witherspoon, Articka Smith and two sons of the heart, whom he helped raise, Michael and David Witherspoon all of VA; several grandchildren; his siblings:  (twin) Ronald Sr., (Nan) of War, Henry, Leona, Patricia, Barbara and Princess Smith all of the home; Doris Hayes of Bluefield, Ronald Jr. of Bradshaw, Maura Smith and fiance', Harry Daniels of Kimball, Brenda and Nelson Mays of VA; four nephews and nieces; three aunts:  Thelma Padgett of Thorpe, Norma Baytops of MI and Lottie Baytops of VA; his significant other, Julie Hairston  of Welch and family and a host of cousins; special friends:  Carl Bell, Buford and Kenny Brown, Joe Diggs, A.J. and Donald Merriweather III.  Services will be held at 12:00 (noon) on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Mt. Zion Church of Christ 78 Little Egypt Road in Havaco, with Bishop Phillip Calloway and the Reverends:  George Masterson, Kenneth Orr (eulogist) and William Spencer officiating.  Interment will follow in Rest lawn Memorial Gardens on Rt. 20, Littlesburg Road in Bluewell, where military rites will be conducted.  Family and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers.  Visitation will begin at 11;00 a.m., until the time of Service at the Church.
