Glorian Brown Obituary

Ms. Glorian Brown a resident of Bluefield, WV, and a long time resident of Gary, who passed away at her home.  Service will be held at 12:00 noon, on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Havaco Temple Baptist Church in Havaco, with the Rev. Kenneth L. Orr officiating, and the Rev. Helen Moore, assisting.  Glorian was born in Welch, and the daughter of Gloria Mitchell Stewart of Gary and the late Charles Brown Sr.,  She was a 1977 graduate of Big Creek High School, a graduate of Bluefield State College, and she received her Master's Degree in Special Education from Marshall University. .  For many years until declining health, she was employed by the McDowell County Board of Education.  She had taught at Welch Jr. High, Gary Elementary, Northfork Middle and Mount View High Schools.  Her last teaching position was at Fall River Elementary School.  While teaching, she served as a basketball coach, and was known for  her skills and talents in helping children with learning disabilities.  Glorian was a member of Havaco Temple Baptist Church.  She enjoyed shopping.  In addition to her father, Charles Sr., she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Galetta, one brother, Charles Jr., her maternal grandmother, Bertha Lacy, other grandparents and the father of three of her children, Melvin S. Barksdale.  She is survived by her mother, Gloria, her children:  Geree L., Malcolm C.J., and Gezelle L. Brown all of Gary; four grandchildren:  Amya, Jamica, Jordan and Preston; one brother, Calvin Brown of Phoenix, AZ; a host of uncles, aunts; several generations of cousins and friends; which includes special friends, Helen Moore of Blacksburg, VA and Lynn Childress of Gary.  Family and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers.  Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m., until the time of Service.
