Mrs.  Gwendolyn DeBerry age 86, a long time resident of Welch, who peacefully departed this life on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at CAMC. She was born April 6, 1931 in Chattanooga, TN and the daughter of the late Alberta Benton Sorrell.  After graduating from High School, she became a homemaker.  She lived in Welch the greater part of her life and for over 60 years was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church.  She faithfully served as an Usher, Kitchen Committee, Missionary Society, former choir member and financial secretary.  Also served on several committees for the Flat Top.  During her many years of employment, she was a sales clerk at both the Dollar and Super 10 Stores in Welch.  She loved spending time with her family and friends and attending Church.  She enjoyed cooking and helping others.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack DeBerry Sr., two sons, Keith and Frank, and two brothers, Clarence and Earnest.  She was a well respected lady in the Community and by all who knew and loved her.  She leaves cherished memories to her children:  Stephany Neal of MD, Jack (Lorene) DeBerry Jr., of CA, Blanche (Rev. Joseph Jr.) Moore of Coalwood, the Honorable Judge Gertrude Denise (Ronel Sr.) Brown of KY and Francine (Rev. Curtis) Spencer of Northfork; one brother, Julian Brown of KY; 10 grandchildren:  Danielle(Rob) Turner, LaKesha DeBerry, Keith Moore, LaTonya Wade, Carolyn Moore, B. J. (Carlissa) Brown, Ahsha DeBerry, Thobi Brown, Curtis C. Spencer and Ashlee Spencer; six great-grandchildren; several generations of nephews, nieces and cousins; her extended family; the Alexander, Younger, Persiani and Stallworth families and a special friend, the late Sister Inez Farmer and many other friends. 

Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church 135 Court Street in Welch, with the Reverends:  George Masterson, Joseph Moore Jr., Curtis Spencer and William Spencer officiating.  Interment will follow in Rest lawn Memorial Gardens, on Rt. 20, Littlesburg Road in Bluewell, WV.  Pallbearers:  Ronel Brown Sr., Deacons Eugene Lacy and Phil Law, Keith Moore, Curtis C. Spencer and Rob Turner.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., until the time of Service at the Church.
