“I’ve Found Peace in the Storm”
James Hambrick, a resident of Williamson, West Virginia. On April 12, 2024, James was admitted to Pikeville Memorial Hospital with stomach complications at home. On April 21, 2024, he passed away at Pikeville Memorial Hospital and went home to be with his heavenly father, where he will be better cared for in Glory.
James was born in Williamson, West Virginia on November 7, 1948 to his late parents, John L. and Katherine Hambrick. He was the youngest of his three siblings; sister Laura Mae Hambrick-Jones and brother Charles Eugene Hambrick.
James was a member of Second Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Liberty High School, and while there he developed a passion for playing basketball. He led his team during his Junior year to West Virginia Class A State Finals. During his Senior year at Williamson High School, he made First Team Class AAA State Team and was UPI Big All State First Team. James’ skill set only dominated the boards at the collegiate level. After college, James continued his passion in basketball and would often play pick-up games with the younger upcoming players at the “Old Stadium.”
James had a deep, but soft tone voice. He was a dresser and would occasionally go out and socialize.
James was a father of two children, who he leaves to mourn; a son, Xavier D. Thompson of Pennsylvania, and a daughter, Krista Davis of Ohio; two grandchildren; a loving sister, Laura Mae (Reverend Frank) Jones; two nieces, Sabrina (Mike) Tufts of Cleveland, Ohio and Michelle Hambrick-Harris of Detroit, Michigan; a nephew, Christopher Hambrick and a host of great-great nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Logan Street First Baptist Church in Williamson, West Virginia, Reverend Gerald Dotson Pastor. Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12 Noon with Reverend Frank Jones officiating. Honorary Pallbears will be Virdell Banks, Rashawn Hambrick, Patrick Harris, Jr., Bobby Jo Jackson, Michael Johnson and Richard Wright. Active Pallbearers will be Antreyo’ Hambrick, Eugene Hambrick, Kenneth Hambrick, Tony Hambrick and Vernon Hambrick. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher, West Virginia. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home, in Welch, West
Virginia.
