Booker "Tony" Caldwell

Booker "Tony" Caldwell Jr., age 60, of Hemphill; formerly of Ft. Worth, TX, who departed this life on Monday, November 27, 2017 at Welch Community Hospital.  He was born May 30, 1957 in Lorain, OH and the son of the late Booker T. Caldwell Sr. and Virginia (Greenwood) Caldwell Hairston.  He was a graduate of Welch High School and a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served for 15 years.  After his military career he lived in Ft. Worth for 20 years, was employed at Harris Methodist Hospital, and a member of the Church of Christ. In 2016, he returned to Hemphill, where he enjoyed spending time with his family and reading his Bible and sports magazines.  He was an avid video game player. He was the oldest grandson and a role model for the younger male family members.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Krissy, his grandparents and three siblings.  Tony will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Candice Devine and two grandchildren of TX; his siblings:  Willie Caldwell and John (Diane) Willingham both of VA and Tara (Thomas) Glenn of Northfork; two aunts and a host of nephews nieces and many cousins.  Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at St. James Baptist Church 135 Court Street in Welch, with the Rev. William Spencer officiating.  Interment will follow at Southwest Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA.  His nephews will serve as pallbearers and visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m..
