Edward C. Preston

Edward C. "June" Preston Jr., age 90, a long time resident of Welch, WV,  who passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Welch Community Hospital, was born in Gary, WV.  He was the son of the late Corine and Edward C. Preston Sr.  June as he was well known, was educated in the McDowell County School System.  He was a retired coal miner, having worked at Olga Coal Company in Coalwood, WV.  He was a member of Court Street United Methodist Church in Welch.  His most favorite sports teams were the NY Yankees, the Charlotte Panthers and the Golden State Warriors.  He was the last surviving member of his original family, as he was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter,Yvette Preston; brother, Arthur Preston and a sister, Ethel Austin.  He leaves cherished memories to his children:  William Preston and Oneida Rodgers both of Chicago, IL, Divonti Preston of Lancaster, OH, Jacqueline (Gary) Green of Mt. Hope, WV, Brenda Preston and Kimberly Preston both of Cleveland, OH, Angeleikia Preston of Welch and Deahanna Preston of Princeton, WV. one sister, Debra Preston Hale of Wilcoe, WV, two brothers, Darrell Preston of Charlotte, NC and Lorenzo Carr of Detroit, MI; wife, Debra ONeil Preston of Princeton; several stepchildren; a host of grand, great, and great-great-grandchildren; his nephews, nieces, cousins; other relatives and friends; which includes  two special friends, (caregiver) Betty Lockley of Coalwood, WV and Rose Greenwood of Kimball, WV.  Service will be held at 1:00 pm., on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church 315 Court Street in Welch, with his pastor, Rev. Olen Butcher-Winfree, eulogist  and Rev. William Spencer presiding.  Family and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers.  Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until the time of Service at the Church.
