George Easley Sr. Obituary

Services for George A. Easley Sr., age 85 of Wilcoe, who departed this life on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the McDowell Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Gary. He was born July 15, 1932 in Wylam, AL and the son of Abraham Albert "AB" Easley Sr. and Alice Watts Easley.  At a young age, he moved to McDowell County, WV and was a graduate of Gary Negro High School.  He served during the Korean Conflict and retired from U.S. Steel as a Foreman.  He was the first African American Foreman at U.S. Steel, opening the doors for others to follow.  He served as the State Leader of the Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS) and a member of VFW Post 1144 of Iaeger, WV.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an amateur radio operator. George was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Alberta Easley; two brothers, Alvin and Albert Easley Jr., three sisters:  Helen Easley Jones, Daisy Easley Jackson and Freda Easley.  George is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Easley; his children:  Larissa Easley of Roanoke, VA, George (Colen) Easley Jr., of Newport News, VA, Karen Brown of Chicago, IL and Steven (Angela) Easley of Marietta, GA; his special grandson, Antonio D. Easley of Wilcoe; two stepsons, Tyrone Hairston an Phillip (Jan) Shoats; two brothers, Freddie Easley of Charleston and Robert Easley of NY; three sisters:  Francis (Maurice) King of Fayetteville, NC, Barbara Graves Theodore of Washington, DC and Shirley King of Atlanta, GA; eight grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; many cousins and friends.  Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, with Chaplin Roger Collins, eulogist.  Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m.  Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.  Military rites will be conducted by the National Guard and the Pulaski VFW Post 1184, with Interment following at 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery on 5550 Bagging Plant Road in Dublin, VA.  All attendants are asked to arrive by 2:45 p.m. at the Cemetery.
