Gloria Mitchell Stewart

Mrs. Gloria M. Mitchell Brown Stewart age 82, a resident of Gary, who departed this life on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.   She was born March 8, 1936 in Hemphill and the daughter of Rosebud Mitchell, Bertha Tucker Mitchell Lacy and Lewis Lacy Sr.  She was a graduate of Kimball High School.  She had held several positions in the workforce and for many years was employed as a Prenatal & Birth Control Social Worker for the Tug River Clinics.  She had served an unexpired term at the House of Delegates.  After moving to Gary over 27 years ago, she joined Rock Hill Baptist Church.  She was a talented interior decorated and had a green thumb for gardening.  She was a "people person," and an advocate for the rights of others.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Charles Brown Sr. and Ed Stewart; three of her children:  Rufus, Charles Jr. and Glorian Brown (on 4-12-2018); one granddaughter, Galetta Brown and two of her brothers, Rufus Mitchell and Clarence Lacy.  Gloria is survived by one son, Calvin (Antoinette) Brown; her grandchildren:  Geree her caregiver, Malcolm, Gezelle, Crystal and Blake; great-grandchildren:  Amya, Jamica, Jordan, and Preston; her siblings:  Lewis (Pam) Lacy Jr., Eugene (Catherine) Lacy, Genoa Sosa, Glen J. Tee, Gwendolyn Lacy and Guerivace (Adolphus) Shelton; a host of nephews, nieces; other relatives and friends.  Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Big Sandy, with the Reverends:  Larry Hairston, presiding, George Masterson eulogist and Helen Moore assisting.  Interment will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell.  Gloria's family will serve as her pallbearers and flower bearers.  Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., until time of Service at the Church.
