John J. "Big John" Cummings age 69, a resident of Golden Harvest in Welch; formerly of Gary, WV, who departed this life on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Golden Harvest.  He was born July 7, 1948, and one of six children born to the late Bernice Cummings.  He was born and raised in Gary and completed his education at Gary District High School.  He enjoyed cooking and had worked at several area restaurants and in Detroit, Michigan until 1999.  John was a member of Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church in Kimball for many years. He generously shared his musical talents wherever and whenever called upon.  He enjoyed flower gardening and caring for his pets.

John was preceded in death by his mother and one sister, Pearl.  He is survived by his siblings:  Robert (Yvonne "Juanita") Cummings of Gary, Alfred Cummings of Louisville, KY, Margaret (Melvin) Carr of Charlotte, NC and Regina Simmons of Bluefield, VA; his special niece, Veronica M. Cummings and special great-nephew, Omarion Cummings both of Gary; two generations of nephews and nieces and a host of cousins. Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Miracle Mt. Carmel Church of God in Kimball, with Elder Anthony & Evangelist Deiandra Blair, Rev. George Masterson and Elder Georgia Smith officiating.  Relatives and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., until time of Service.
