Mrs. Lula V. Payne was born on the 11th day of June 1927, to her parents,the late Evelyn Hickman Howell and Robert Baity of Keystone, WV.    After completing her education, she became a wife and a homemaker. For 66 years, she was a faithful member of Mt. Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Keystone, until failing health.  She loved the Lord, her Church and singing hymns of praise.  Her joy was in giving generously of her time and talents to help others.  She was an excellent cook, who enjoyed both shopping and traveling. Her favorite pastimes were spent watching television game shows, old movies and wrestling matches.  Also, this summer she attended and sang with Toby Mac at one of his Concerts.  She had a great sense of humor and remained both humble and gentle natured throughout years of illness. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Melton Maben Sr., her second husband, Wilmer Payne; two siblings, Walter Howell and Vivian Williams; one granddaughter, Renetta "Sue" Dickerson; great-grandchildren:  Andrianna and Anthony Dickerson Sr., Mykell Cowans, TreVon Hatch, Jayden Payne and great-great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Hurt.  Mrs. Payne was the last surviving member of her original family, as she peacefully departed this life on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Novant Health/Presbyterian in Charlotte, NC.  She leaves a life time of cherished memories to her devoted children:  Melton W. (Donna) Maben Jr., of Winston-Salem, NC, Dennis W. (Sheila) Payne of Columbus, OH, Lula "Virginia" (George) Dickerson of Keystone, WV, Evelyn (Hugh) Maben-Hall of Weddington, NC, Hattie M. (Alphonso D.) Avery of Keystone, WV, Holly A. Maben of Charlotte, NC, and Ruth (Pastor Kenneth) Payne-Brown of Northfork, WV; grandchildren:  Georgetta Dickerson, Tony Dickerson, Patricia Dickerson, Donald (Mildred)  Dickerson, Inez (Isaah)  Dodson, Myesha (Robbie) Cowans, Vanessa Kilpatrick, Nicolette Brown, Michelle "Tiffany Blu" Cromwell, Damon Cromwell, Denisha Payne, Dennis "Denberg" Payne, Devon Payne, Kenneth J. Brown and Marla Brown; her 54 additional great, and great-great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces; other relatives and Carlotta Young, her sister-in-law of Keystone, WV and friends.   A Service in honor of her well lived life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Mt. Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Keystone, with her son-in-law, Pastor Kenneth Brown, eulogist and Dr. Robert E. Rogers presiding.  Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, WV.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., until the time of Service.  Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and granddaughters as flower bearers.
