Services will be held for Mrs. Sadie M. Edwards age 96, of (Algoma) Northfork, who gained her "heavenly wings," on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her granddaughter, Tabatha (Jan Sr.) Rucker and their children: Shanika, Tanika and Jan Jr.. She was born March 17, 1922 in Kyle, and one of ten children born to the late George L. and Sadie (Hagwood) Armstead. After completing her education, she married James Edwards and became a homemaker. She was a life long member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Arlington, where she served as an Usher and Choir member. In earlier years, she was a member of the Northfork OES. Mae as she was affectionately known, loved her family dearly. She was multi-talented and used her talents to help others. In her younger years, she was an outstanding baseball player. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her nine siblings: Alberta, Ben, Bertha, Dorothy, Hazel, John Lee, Paul, Robert and Tommy. She was the last surviving member of her original family. Our "Angel," on earth is now watching over us in Heaven. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Barbara (Johnny) Chatman of Columbus, OH, Pauline Leftwich of Algoma, with whom she made her home, Jimmie Armstead of Painesville, OH and her granddaughter, whom she raised, Tabatha (Jan Sr.) Rucker of Algoma; two sisters-in-law, Eleana Armstead and Elizabeth Armstead; 15 grandkids, 45 great-grandkids, 41 great-great-grandkids; several generations of nephews and nieces; other relatives, friends and a special caregiver, Angela High. Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Arlington, with the Reverends, Timothy Hairston, presiding and Tomie Walters eulogist. Interment Restlawn Cemetery 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell. Family will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., until the time of Service.
