Rev. Leroy Safford Jr. age 70, who resided at 312 Park Street in Bluefield, WV; formerly of Kimball, WV, and departed this life early on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 in Princeton Community Hospital. He was born August 30, 1948 in Havaco, WV, and the son of the late Leroy Safford Sr., and Aretha Hughes Safford. After completing his education, he had worked for the Alcohol Beverage Commission In Charleston, WV. He was a paramedic and for many years was employed at U.S. Steel No. 2 Coalmines in Gary, WV. He lived in Kimball before moving to Bluefield approximately 14 years ago. He was of the Baptist faith and was ordained June 10, 1984 as a Minister, at (the former) True Vine Baptist Church in Coalwood, WV. He was a very spiritual man. He loved CB radios and his handle was "Bo Jangles." Also, known to many as June, but his most favorites were Daddy, Pops and Paw-Paw. He enjoyed basketball and was an avid fan of both the Lakers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had a great sense of humor and was a "jack of all trades." In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and soul mate, Mary Etta Kelly Safford; two brothers, Johnny and Jerome Safford. He was his family's "Superhero," and will be greatly missed by his children: Terri Safford of San Antonio, TX, Tanya Morton of Huntington,WV, Leroy Safford and Laron (Stephanie) Safford both of Bluefield, Susan (Joseph) Woods of Hampton, VA, Mariann (Tasheem) Safford and Yorel Safford both of Charlotte, NC; a special daughter, Lyrissa Safford of Radford, VA; a host of grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; his siblings: Leona Safford, Debra Safford and William (Kandy) Safford all of Winston-Salem, NC; and Joe Nathan Baytops of Roanoke, VA; a host of aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends and his pet, Harley. Rev. Safford's Homegoing Celebration Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church 112 Bedford Street, Bluefield, WV. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, WV. His family and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flowerbearers.
