Alice L. Thomas

Mrs. Alice Louise Kelly Thomas 94, of  310 Ridgecrest Road Bluefield, WV; formerly of Landgraff, WV who passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the home of her loving daughter and friend, Patricia, following a brief illness.  Alice was born May 12, 1927 in Beckley, WV to Lacy Kelly Sr., and Eunice Turpin Kelly.  After the death of her father, Alice was raised in Barley, WV by her mother and stepfather, Bishop Wilfred L. Dickerson.  She graduated from Excelsior High School and continued her education at West Virginia Institute of Technology, Bluefield State College, and Appalachian Bible College.  Alice retired from the McDowell County Board of Education where she spent 26 years as an educator at Tidewater and Kimball Elementary School.  She was a member of First AME Zion Church in Bluefield, where she had served as Mother of the Church,  the Senior Choir and the Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society. In earlier years, she was a member of the Kimball Community Choir.  She enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, doing artwork, organizing activities, and dancing.  She loved helping others and always saw the best in everyone. Alice was preceded in death by her parents and her husband,  John "Ned" Thomas Sr., her son, W. Dexter Simon, two stepsons, John Jr. and Tony Thomas; her brother, Lacy Kelly Jr., son-in-law, Roland Washington and her daughter-in-law, Christine Simon.   Alice cherished her family and will be deeply missed by all of those she leaves behind; her daughter, Patricia Washington of Wilcoe, WV and her grandchildren:  Benita and Ezekiel Bennett of Bluefield with whom she resided; her grandson, whom she raised and considered as her own, Cederick (Kayla) Thomas of Pittsburg, CA; stepdaughters, Jawanda Gravely of Keystone, WV and Yolanda Keith of Northfork, WV; her stepson, Elwin (Angie) Thomas of Keystone and her sister, Lillian Garner of Baltimore, MD; other grandchildren, her nephews, nieces and friends.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, April 25, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Wilcoe with her Pastor, the Rev. Justina Young officiating, assisted by Pastor David Cooper.  Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, WV.  Family and Friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Services for Mrs. Alice L. Thomas have been entrusted to the Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
