Beulah Mathews Obituary

Mrs. Beulah Ann Mathews was born on November 13, 1928, in Innis, West Virginia to Henry and Clara Holland.  The family relocated to Kyle when Beulah was a child.  It was in Kyle that she met the love of her life Mr. Bruce Mathews.  Bruce and Beulah were inseparable and raised their nine children in a home filled with love.  Beulah accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She loved Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church.  She was an active member serving on the Usher Board and the Willing Workers.  She taught her family by example, reading her Bible daily until her earthly body was no longer able.  Beulah was quick to remind folks how grateful she was to God for keeping her in her right mind and keeping her family safe.  Beulah was a jack of all trades and was not afraid to pick up a hammer or a paintbrush. She taught all her children not to be afraid and to just try it, you can do it.  Beulah enjoyed maintaining her home and taking care of her family. She was interested in everything they did. Beulah showed the same love to her grandchildren.  Any time one came in the house she greeted them with a smile and waited on her kiss.  They all knew to greet her first. She then asked if they worked hard that day and how was school.  Beulah was famous for her green beans, and everyone wanted to know her secret.  Her home was always full of joy; especially during the holidays.  She loved to dote on her children and in turn, they doted on her.  Bruce and Beulah moved to Ohio in 2003, but wherever they were, she ruled the roost.  Beulah loved being around her family. She talked to her sisters on the phone regularly.  She was the matriarch of the family and especially enjoyed family reunions.  Family members knew if they went to her hotel room, they could find a ham sandwich and a slice of cake waiting for them.  Her last wish was to go home to West Virginia.  Beulah was able to do this, attending her Holland, Mathews, and Washington Family Reunion on July 16, 2022, in Bluefield, West Virginia.  She spent the day surrounded by friends and family.  Beulah was preceded in death by her Parents; her husband, Bruce Mathews and sisters;  Bertha Holland, Bessie Carrington, Ina Holland and her brothers, Albert Holland and James Holland, and  a special niece, Lola Hoskins.  Beulah leaves to celebrate her life, her nine children:  Richard (Tonie Ann) Holland, Harold (Linda) Holland, Leonard (Barbara) Mathews, Cecelia Mathews, Joyce Stewart, Brenda Betts, Jeffery (Janice) Mathews, Rodney Mathews, and Yvette (Malcolm) Pannell.  She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her sisters, Martha (Ralph) Washington, and Lue Anna (Dillard) Totten, and sister-in-law, Geraldine Mathews, she also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, and many others who thought of her as a Mother.  Beulah will also be fondly remembered by a special friend, Rosa Lee Reese and her Church family.  Beulah’s Faith in the Lord remained strong until the end.  Beulah Ann Mathews passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25, 2022 in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by Family.  Mrs. Mathews' Homegoing Celebration Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Kyle with Pastor Walter E. Clay eulogist and the Reverend Harold Holland presiding.  Entombment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday at the Church.  Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
