Brenda J. Hairston

Ms. Brenda J. Hairston age 73 of Charleston, WV who departed this life on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at the Hospice Care Center in Charleston.  Brenda was born in Berwind, WV on November 10, 1948.  She was the daughter of the late Travelous R. Hairston Sr. and Viola Purse Hairston.  She attended Big Creek High School and later graduated from the Job Corps in Charleston.  After graduation, Brenda went to Philadelphia, PA where she lived and worked until she returned to Berwind.  She later moved to Bluefield, VA and then to Charleston, where she remained until her death.  Her interests included growing beautiful house plants, watching basketball and football, and most of all spending time with her daughter, Carla, and her grandchildren, Dante, Raekwon, and Gracelynn.  Her sweet smile brightened the day of anyone who came in contact with her.  She greeted everyone with this warm and beautiful smile.  Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Travelous Sr. and Viola Hairston and her sister, Augusta Ann Hairston.  She is survived by her daughter and son-in-love, Carla and Marvin Johnson of Charleston, who were her caregivers.  She leaves six siblings to cherish her memories; Irene and Pastor George Masterson of Coalwood, WV; Michelle and Stacey White of Tazewell, VA; Jimmie Hairston of Voorhees, NJ; Curtis Smith of Richmond, VA; Kennedy and Jackie Hairston of Berwind and  Travelous "T-Bone" Haiston Jr.,  of Berwind.  Most of all she leaves many cherished memories to her beloved grandchildren; Dante Hairston of Florida; Raekwon and Jessica Lane of Charleston and "the Queen" Gracelynn Lane, who was her only great-grandchild.  She is survived by her oldest friend, Juanita Hopkins and a host of cousins and friends. Brenda's (private) Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, December 30, 2021 (with only her Family in attendance) at St. James Missionary Baptist Church 315 Court Street in Welch, WV, with her brother-in-love, Pastor George Masterson officiating.  The Elder Marvin Lockett, Pastor Joseph Moore and the Reverend Edwin Ogburn will be assisting.  Interment will follow in Hartwell Cemetery. Brenda's family and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers.   A Revolving (public) Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., until the time of Service.  Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, (to leave online condolences:  gregory-pagefh.com.)   Please be advised COVID protocol will be followed and the wearing of masks.
