Charles Leonard "Scooter" Shelton age 75, a resident of Keystone, West Virginia, departed this life on Monday, January 8, 2024 in the comforts of his home. He was born in Keystone on the 7th day of December, 1948 and the son of James Shelton and Thelma Robinson. He completed his education at Northfork High School in 1969 where he was an outstanding member of both the football and basketball teams. Scooter was of the Baptist Faith and a long time employee of the McDowell County Board of Education. He retired from Kimball Elementary School after many years of service, as a Custodian. Scooter was known as a family man and had a generous, pleasant spirit. He was straight forward and had a humorous side. Charles "Scooter" was preceded in death by his parents, James Shelton and Thelma Robinson-Anderson; two of his brothers, William and Curtis and two of his sisters, Josephine and Sharon. He leaves cherished memories to his children: Charles and his wife, Melissa Scott of Greensboro, North Carolina, Timothy Scott of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Tara Scott of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren: Charnell, Tyshawn, Charyle Jean, Amariah and Anaris and a great-granddaughter, Ribbon; the mother of his children, Sandra Scott of Kyle, West Virginia; his siblings: Walter and his wife, Cherie, Deborah and her husband, Roger, Toni and her husband, Larry, Bobbi and Benita all of Columbus; a host of nephews, nieces and cousins; his co-workers, neighbors and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Mt. Chapel Baptist Church, 18 Suzanne Slaughter Avenue in Keystone, with Pastor Kenneth Brown officiating. Family and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, West Virginia.
