Deacon Clarence Bernard "Bo" Obey age 91, a life long resident of Jenkinjones, WV was called from labor to reward on Friday, July 14, 2023 in the Mercer Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Bluefield, WV. He was born in Maybeury, WV on the the 12th day of October, 1931 into the loving parentage of Thomas M. "Mack" Sr. and Roberta (Wimbush) Obey. After completing his education, he joined the United States Army, where he honorably served until being discharged. Deacon Obey had previously worked at US Steel No. 9 Coal Mines in Gary, WV, was an auto-body man at Mabe- Cartwright Dealership in Welch, WV and was the owner/operator of Bo's TV Cable Company in Jenkinjones. He was "hands on," setting the three sided tower on top of the mountain and running the cable for subscribers to have cable service in their homes. Deacon Obey loved the Lord, his family and his fellowman. Throughout the years of his membership at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Thorpe, WV, he was both faithful and willing to serve where needed; especially as a Deacon and a member of the Men's Chorus. Bo was a great conversationalist who enjoyed speaking fondly of his life's experiences and memories. He enjoyed gardening, working with electronic items and was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lois Byers Obey; one son, Ronald Obey and two daughters: Lynn Obey, Jackie Woods and daughter-in-law, Hannah Obey; his siblings: Thomas "Goofy" Obey Jr., Reverend Weldon Holliday Sr., Geraldine Hawkins and Lyon Watkins. Clarence Bernard Obey known to many as "Bo," was the last surviving member of his original family. He leaves a lifetime of cherished memories to his sons, Donald Obey of Jenkinjones and Michael (Cyrethia) Byers of Bluefield, VA; a host of grand and great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces; other relatives and friends. Deacon Obey's Service will be held at the Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, WV at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 28, 2023 with the Reverend George Masterson officiating. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, where Military Rites will be performed by the Mercer County Honor Guard. His family and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM.
