Della F. Powell Obituary

Mrs. Della Kate Ferguson-Powell age 86 of 113 Blue Demon Drive in Elkhorn, WV was born January 21, 1935 in Coalwood, WV.  She was one of eighteen children born to the late Clint Sr., and Sallie A. (Wade) Ferguson.  She was a graduate of Excelsior High School  and married "the love of her life," William Henry Powell Sr., on February 19, 1953 In Northfork, WV.  She was  employed for a number of years by the McDowell County Board of Education and last worked as a custodian at the (former) Northfork High School.  Mrs. Powell was a member and served as Mother of the Upland Missionary Baptist Church in Upland, WV for many, many years.  She enjoyed going to Church, cooking and spending quality time with her Family. She was an avid shopper and her favorite shopping centers were Roses and Wal-mart.  Her most favorite pastimes were spent enjoying the scenery while traveling.  In addition to her parents and her husband, William Sr., she was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Powell and sixteen of her siblings:  Clara, William Henry, Clint Jr., Josephine, James, John, Marsha, Cesheloia, George, Benjamin, Helen, Harry, Pearl, Eleanora, Thelma, and Mary.  On Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton, WV the Lord called Della Kate Ferguson Powell from labor to reward.   She will be lovingly remembered by her children, her family and all that knew her for having a "heart-of-gold."  She leaves cherished memories to her devoted children:  Rannetta J, Brenda J., and William H. Powell Jr., all of Elkhorn and an adopted daughter, Mary Redd of Georgia; her five grandchildren:  Traci, Karima (Grady Sr.,)  Rodney, Rashea and William "Rock," 10  great-grandchildren:  Jae'den, Terrell, Deiyante'i, Amir, Elijah, Tyquise, Mar'ion, Shinyah, Kennedi and Aiyana; her only sister, Queenie Bush of Cleveland, OH; her brother-in-law, the Reverend Jerome (Evangelist Sharon) Powell and sisters-in-law, Terry McCoy both of Princeton and Loretta Powell of Mansfield, OH; one goddaughter, Tameika Martin and a host of nephews, nieces; other relatives, her Church family and friends.  Mrs. Powell's Home going Celebration Service was held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Upland Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverends:  Dane Moore eulogist, Jerome Powell presided and the Reverends:  David Cooper, Tim Hairston and George Masterson assisted.  Entombment followed in Restlawn Mausoleum, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, WV.  Her grandsons and great-grandsons served as pallbearers.  Visitation began at 10 a.m., until the time of Service.  Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, WV, (to leave online condolences:  gregory-pagefh.com.) Both COVID protocol and the wearing of masks was followed.
