On June 28, 1935 Dillard Totten was born in Mohawk, West Virginia to Joe Conley Totten and Virginia (King) Totten. To this union, ten (10) children were born of which; he was the first. Dillard was educated in the McDowell County School System. At a young age, he enlisted in the United States Army.
Dillard was employed by the Keystone Mining Company for many years. His responsibilities included mining coal inside the mines. Later, after receiving his promotion to Tipple Supervisor, he worked outside the coal mines. He was an excellent provider for his family.
Dillard was united in holy matrimony to Lue Anna Holland. This union lasted for sixty-two (62) years, until she transitioned, on December 3, 2023.
He was a member of Mercy Seat Baptist Church while living in Kyle, West Virginia, where he had served as a Sunday School teacher and was on the Board of Deacons. He later transferred to Midway- Shiloh Temple Church in Keystone, West Virginia, where he had served as a Deacon.
Dillard loved colorful clothing and his style of dressing was to wear hats that matched his suits, He and Lue often coordinated their outfits for Church. His hobbies included communicating with truckers on his CB radio and his fishing and hunting trips with his dear friend, the late Pastor Harold "Pledge" Calloway Sr. Dillard was a homebody and he enjoyed gardening and watching the westerns and the news.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Virginia Totten; his wife, Lue Anna Totten and two of his brothers, Ernest and Ray Totten. On Friday evening, November 8, 2024, Dillard peacefully departed this life in the comforts of his home.
He leaves to cherish his memories and to celebrate his legacy one son, Claude (Gladys) Holland of Sterling Heights, Michigan; his sisters: Bessie Tanksley of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, Barbara Lewis of Abington, Pennsylvania, Loretta Osborne, Izetta Donley and Catherine (John) McMillan all of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and his brothers, Elder Roger (Gail) Totten,of Columbus, Ohio and Joe (Doris) Totten of Euclid, Ohio; a special niece, Dominique Adkins of Bluefield, West Virginia; grandson, Eric "Chuckie" Trent of Bluefield, West Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews and friends, which includes; a special friend, Deacon Curly Lee; his, faithful neighbors, Evangelist Tim and Sister Faye Hairston; his caregivers and his God sent caregiver, Victor Helm. Deacon Dillard Totten's Homegoing Celebration Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Midway-Shiloh Temple Church 33034 Coal Heritage Road in Keystone, West Virginia with the Elder John Hale, presiding and the Elder Roger Totten eulogist. Entombment at 11:00 AM, on Monday, November 18, 2024 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM until 11:50 AM, on Sunday at the Church. Family and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, West Virginia. .
