Donald Eugene and Deborah Sue (Gillenwater) Griffin both age 69 and lived in Havaco, West Virginia. They departed this life on Monday, February 17, 2025 in Welch, West Virginia.
Don was born on October 9, 1955 in Lumberton, North Carolina and the son of the late James C. and Vera (Haney) Griffin. Debbie was born on June 25, 1955 in Madison, West Virginia and the daughter of the late Bobby E. and Gladys M. (Wilson) Gillenwater.
After completing their education, Don enlisted in the United States Army, having served in the 82nd Airborne in Fayetteville, North Carolina and Debbie worked in the medical field as a CNA. After meeting in Fayetteville, they were married on June 1, 1981 and moved to Havaco, West Virginia. He was a truck driver and she had worked in management at several retail stores. They were of the Baptist faith.
Don's favorite hobby was wood crafting and carving beautiful artwork, While Debbie also was very talented and enjoyed cooking, baking and knitting. Their family was "the light of their lives."
They were both preceded in death by their parents and one great-grandson, Kodah Allan-Ray Dawkins. Debbie was preceded in death by one son, Allan McCormick and one brother, Bobby Gillenwater.
Don and Debbie will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by their daughters: Rachel Robinson of Havaco and Heather Heath of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Don and Debbie's grandchildren: Kayla McCormick, Nadia Jones, Allison McCormick, Jordan Griffin, Allan McCormick, Madelynn Heath, and Nina Health and great-granddaughter, Ariyanna Broome. Debbie's devoted siblings: Terry and his wife, Marilyn Gillenwater of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jerry and his wife, Debbie Gillenwater and Sandy Shamblin both of Peytona, West Virginia and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
Don and Debbie's Memorial Service along with their great-grandson, Kodah will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the First United Methodist Church 125 Virginia Avenue in Welch with Pastor Bradley Davis officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM.
