Dr. Howard P. Wade, age 97, a long- time resident of Maybeury, West Virginia, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, November 2, 2023, in the comforts of his home. Dr. Wade was born on the 11th day of February 1926, into the very loving parentage of William Thomas and Nellie Gray (Ray) Wade, who resided in Eckman, West Virginia, at the time of his birth. After graduating from Kimball High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was Honorably Discharged from Montford Point at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Dr. Wade had achieved and accomplished much in this life and excelled in his chosen profession. However, his first love was serving God and becoming an ordained, active Deacon at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Maybeury for a great number of years. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion, Alpha Upsilon Boule' Sigma Pi Fi Fraternity, an Honorary Alumni of Bluefield State College, and dear to his heart was the Study of African American Life and History. He dearly loved and was devoted to his family and was known as a "people person." He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports and listening to music. Dr. Wade was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nellie; his wife, Mary Williams Wade, and three of his children: Howard M. Wade, John Wade and Antonetta Thomas; his siblings: Annie G. Rucker, Betty J. Vernon, Galvester Wade, and William "Buck" Wade. He was the last surviving member of his original family. He leaves a lifetime of treasured, cherished memories to his son and caregiver, Leon P.
