Dwight Antoine Bushnell, age 63 of Stonecrest, Georgia; formerly of Maryland and West Virginia, peacefully departed this life on Friday, October 6, 2023, in Georgia. He was born on November 25, 1959, in Welch, West Virginia and was the son of the late John and Lillie Gravely Bushnell. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Caroline and John Gravely; paternal grandparents, Mattie and Joe Bushnell and his brother, Bobby J. Bushnell. He was a graduate of Mount View High School and attended Howard University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and the track team. He was a member of Lovely Zion Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed by Kiewit Electrical and was a union member of the IBEW Local 26 for many years until his health began to falter.
Dwight was a charismatic, kindhearted and humble man. He was an avid reader, who loved to travel and attend the Atlanta Hawks' games and enjoyed watching all sports and western movies. He was a man who had a love for life, along with the pursuit of happiness. He was a very diligent worker and a independent person who never met a stranger. He leaves to mourn two daughters: Taneisha Bushnell of Stonecrest and Alisa Bushnell of Bluefield, West Virginia; four granddaughters: Amani Starkey of Bluefield, Kiyah, Kiyana, and Kiyla Wray all of Maybeury, West Virginia; five grandsons: Zhamir Bushnell of Bluefield, Kiyan Wray of Moundsville, West Virginia, Khalil Williams, Kameron and Kayden Bushnell all of Stonecrest; one sister, Lisa (Michael) Leath of Accokeek, Maryland; two brothers: Ronald (Deborah) Bushnell of Kimball, West Virginia and Eric (Sandra) Bushnell of Clermont, Florida; nieces: Sheena (Thomas) Bell of Kimball; Kiara Leath of Alexandria, Virginia; nephews: Jalen (Faith) Bushnell of Maryland and Michael Daniels of Lorton, Virginia; three great nieces, one great nephew; significant other, Jennifer Campbell and a host of cousins, other relatives and lifelong friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Lovely Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Kimball with eulogist, Elder Joseph Saunders. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia where Burial Rites will be conducted by the Mercer County Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM at the Church. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
