The Life of Eddie Mae Henderson George Gravely. "to know her, was to love her." She was born on the 15th day of January, 1936 into the loving parentage of Walter and Helen (Hairston) Henderson who resided in Vivian, West Virginia at the time of her birth. Eddie Mae also known as "Nannie," was a life long resident of Powhatan, West Virginia and a life long member of Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church. She retired on October 1, 2013, after 38 years of service as a special education, Teacher's Aide with the McDowell County Board of Education. She was last employed, before retiring at Mount View High School in Welch, West Virginia. Throughout the years, she took continuing education classes to maintain her certification as a special education Teacher's Aide. Nannie was a very loving, helpful person. She always "said what she meant, and meant what she said." She enjoyed cooking and eating good food, the eating more so than the cooking is how she was described. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Helen; her first husband, Billy J. George and second husband, Henry Gravely; one son, Bobby J. Henderson; her sister, Mary J. Dockery Wallington and two of her brothers, Robert (Mary) Henderson and Percy Henderson. On October 18, 2023 at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem, Virginia she peacefully departed this life. Eddie Mae will be remembered as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and closest friends. Those left to cherish her best memories are her daughter, Deirdre Hairston of Greensboro, North Carolina; her sons: Billy George of Hiddente, North Carolina, Sidney (Pam) George of Upland, West Virginia and Carmen Thomas of Maybeury, West Virginia; her host of grand and great-grandchildren and her only brother, Roland (Rose) Henderson of Kyle, West Virginia and a brother-in-law, Donald (Delores) George of Columbus, Ohio; also survived by a host of devoted nephews, nieces; great-nephews and great nieces; her cousins, neighbors and friends. Mrs. Gravely's Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Kyle with Pastor Walter E. Clay officiating, and assisted by Bishop Anthony Tucker. Entombment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia.
