Emmit Young Obituary

Mr. Emmit Young age 94, a long time resident of Welch, WV, who peacefully departed this life on Monday, August 24, 2020 at the McDowell Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Gary, WV.  He was born November 24, 1925 in Welch and the son of the late Novella Brown.  Known by most as  Fuzzy or Mr. Emmit, he had moved back to Welch in 1994, after living in Asbury Park, NJ since 1950.  While living in Asbury Park, he was employed by Borden's Dairy, the Cape May Seafood Cannery and was last employed and retired as a maintenance manager at the Vida Gardens Apartments.  When he returned home to Welch, he immediately reconnected with old friends and instantly made a circle of new friends during his life time.  Several years ago he joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Welch, where he faithfully served wherever and whenever needed.  He was a "people person," who found great joy in helping others. He loved to travel and was the local (dependable) taxi for many.   In addition to his Mother, he was preceded in death by his only brother, Ernest "Spike" Young and a friend who was closer than a brother, Donald Smith.  Mr. Young was the last surviving member of his original family.  He leaves a host of friends and family; which includes his cousins:  Joann Moore of Anawalt, WV, Pastor George (Debbie) Scott of Huntington, WV and Deacon Sam (Toni) Scott of Logan, WV and several generations of cousins; a special friend and companion, Patricia "Sissy" Banks of Bluefield, VA; his Pastor George and First Lady Irene Masterson; his Church and neighborhood family and friends. A Service in Celebration of Mr. Young's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel 6605 New Hope Road, Bluewell, WV, with the Reverend George Masterson, officiating.  Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.  Family and friends will serve as both Pallbearers and Flower bearers.   Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch (to leave online condolences:  www: gregory-pagefh.com.)  Social distancing and wearing masks will be observed.
