George S. Carr Sr.

George Schofield Carr Sr., a life long resident of Wilcoe, West Virginia, departed this life in the comforts of his home early on Friday, December 20, 2024, surrounded by his family. 

George was born in Welch, West Virginia, March 29, 1946 and the son of Earnest Shelton Carr Sr., and Mary Lethia Watts Carr.  After completing his education at Gary District High School, George joined the work force.  He was employed at Doctors' Memorial Hospital as an Orderly for many years, and retired after 30 years of employment with the State Road Department in Havaco, West Virginia. 

In earlier years, George became a member of First Baptist Church in Wilcoe.  George did not mind working and after hours and on weekends he was known to cut grass; especially for the elderly and seniors.   George was an Uber/taxi driver for many.  Being outdoors suited George, for it allowed him to see and talk to the people who were around him.  His most favorite pastimes were spent playing his numbers and watching the Westerns.  George was also a "die hard fan" of the Oakland Raiders. 

George was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Sr., and Mary; his wife, Belinda Sue Price Carr and one sister, Kay Caryln Carr.  George will be remembered for his great love for his family:  his son, George S. Carr Jr., of Charlotte, North Carolina and his daughter, Tanisha M. (William Caldwell) Carr of Gary, West Virginia; his grandchildren:  Tia, Tariq, Timothy, Ayana and Arionna Carr; and two great-grandchildren, Cyndra Weaver and Te'Leeah Carr, each of whom he loved dearly.  His devoted siblings:  Earnest Jr., and his wife, Anna Carr of Tacoma, Washington, Melvin and his wife, Margaret Carr of Charlotte, North Carolina, Debra Preston-Hale (his beloved sister) of Wilcoe, Darrell Preston of Charlotte and Lorenzo Carr of Detroit, Michigan;  a host of nephews, nieces and cousins; two long time family friends, Rhonda Wade and Janice McClure; his many neighbors, coworkers and friends. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at First Baptist Church,159 Prosperity Road in Wilcoe with the Reverend George Masterson officiating, assisted by Overseer Anthony J. Bell and Ruling Elder Anthony Blair.  Interment Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM., until hour of Service.  Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
