Mr. George Donald Dickerson age 86, of Kimball, West Virginia, a long time resident of Keystone, West Virginia, departed this life on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 in CAMC, Charleston, West Virginia.
Born on January 21, 1939, in Keystone and the son of Roosevelt Dickerson Sr., and Madeline Mansfield Dickerson Martin. George was a graduate of Kimball High School in Kimball, West Virginia. He had served for several years in the Army National Guard and Army National Reserve. Later he became a coal miner.
He was known throughout the Community as "Mr. Fix it." He had the ability to work with his hands to make repairs from carpentry to plumbing; no job was too large or too small.
He was a devout member of Mt. Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Keystone, where he served as devotional leader, the Scholarship Committee and Adult Choir member. Until failing health, he was a very faithful member of the Community of Praise Singers. He was a God fearing man, who knew and loved the Lord and was the root of his family's tree. He was a soft spoken, humble man who wore many hats. George was a husband, father, granddad, and both a great and great-great-granddad.
George enjoyed fishing, drawing and word puzzles and both carpentry and masonry projects.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, David Martin, who loved and nurtured him as his own; one daughter, Renetta Sue, and a son, David; two siblings, Roosevelt Jr., and Inez Hewitt; grandchildren: AJ, Mykel, Kyleigh, Adrianna and Micah; one aunt, Annie Mae Watkins (age 103); his niece, Kim and nephew, Ryan.
George will be greatly missed by his wife of 64 years, Lula Virginia Maben Dickerson and their children: Georgetta and Tony Dickerson and Myesha (Robert) Cowans all of Keystone, Inez (Isaah) Dodson of Kimball, Patricia Dickerson of Charlotte, North Carolina and Donald (Mildred) Dickerson Sr., of Sherman, Texas; his grandchildren: Malik, Maliyah and Makhi Cowans, Nicole (Joseph) Flack, Ronisha (Cortien) Argo, Natosha Adamou, Jasmine (Kevin) Hurt, Altavese (David) Jennings, Nikkia Dickerson, Keyona Winebush, Akeem Dickerson, Donald Dickerson II., Donangel Amaya Dickerson, D'Alphonso George Dickerson, Shalon Mason and Brittany Powell; his sisters-in-law: Hattie (Alphonso) Avery, Holly Maben, Evelyn (Hugh, deceased) Hall and Ruth (Pastor Kenneth) Brown and brothers-in-law, Melton (Donna) Maben and Dennis (Shelia) Payne; niece, Madeline Hewitt and nephew, Kenny Hewitt Jr., and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; many cousins and friends.
Mr. Dickerson's Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Mt. Chapel Missionary Baptist Church 18 Suzanne Slaughter Avenue in Keystone, West Virginia. with Pastor Kenneth Brown officiating. Entombment Restlawn Mausoleum 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia, where Burial Rites will be conducted by the Mercer County Honor Guard. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, West Virginia.
