George Thaddeus Hickman, (AKA Flap) age 74, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, June 14, 2026 in Bluefield, West Virginia, surrounded by his devoted, loving daughter and family.
He was born on November 15, 1951 in Keystone, West Virginia and the son of George and Loreatha Smith Hickman. Flap grew up in Kimball, West Virginia and had attended both Kimball High School and Welch High School, where he had played on the basketball teams. He was a very proud member of the Army National Guard, and had served for over 25 years. Flap was a skilled, weapons' marksman. He enjoyed watching all television sports, working on cars and was an avid fisherman. Flap was a "people person." His conversations and friendly personality endeared him to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Loreatha; two sisters, Amonata "Amy" Woody and Andrea "Drae"Hickman; three brothers: James "Genie" Smith, Larry Hickman and Ronald "Dee Dee" Hickman.
He is survived by his daughter, Benita Hickman Bennett and grandson, Ezekiel Bennett, his brothers: Nathaniel "Dice" Smith, Keith "Rick" Hickman, Philip "Skeet" Hickman and Adrian "Randy" Hickman. He will be missed by his brothers-in-arms in the US Army and a host of nieces and nephews.
Military Rites will be conducted by the Mercer County Honor Guard at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 22, 2026 and a Memorial Service will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia. Visitation will begin at 12:30 PM.
