Mrs. Grace Alfreda "Freda" Brogdon Craighead of Bluefield, West Virginia departed this life on Sunday, April 26, 2026 in the Mercer Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Bluefield, West Virginia; following illness.
She was born on the 19th day of July in 1954 into the loving parentage of Benjamin P. Brogdon Sr., and Nannie E. Joyce Brogdon. Freda grew up in Thorpe, West Virginia and attended public schools in McDowell County. At a young age, she accepted the Lord as her Savior and joined Miracle Mt. Carmel Holiness Church of God, where she served as one of the Mothers of the Church. She met and married James R. Craighead Jr., and became a wonderful homemaker, wife and mother to their four children. She was known as a very good cook, who enjoyed cooking for large crowds and had her own unique style of dressing. Her family knew she had to shop at both Kroger's and Wal-mart at least several days of each week. Her sense of humor, her smile and laughter helped to brighten the days of those around her. She loved the Lord, her family and loved to help anyone in need.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Sr., and Nannie and three of her siblings: Overseer Benjamin P. (Lillian) Brogdon Jr., Elder Lewis O. Brogdon Sr., and Bishop Izalliar Brogdon Dalton.
Grace Alfreda Brogdon Craighead will be greatly missed, as she was greatly loved by her husband of 53 years, James Jr., and their children: Evangelist Monica R. Craighead, Alicia D. Craighead, Kevin R. Craighead and Gerald E. Craighead all of Bluefield, West Virginia; her 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; Freda's devoted brother, Deacon Robert E. (Helen) Brogdon Sr., of Welch, West Virginia and devoted sister, Elder Bonita G. Mitchell of Charleston, West Virginia; two aunts, Mother Lottie Joyce and Mother Pat Joyce; her sisters-in-love: Prophetess Earleen Brogdon, Cora D. Robinson, Elizabeth D. Craighead and Shirley A. Craighead and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins and a special friend, Darlene Thornhill; her Church family and many friends.
Mother Craighead's Homegoing Celebration Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Greater Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church 104 Park Street in Bluefield, West Virginia with Pastor Anthony Blair officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM at the Church. Interment at 12:00 noon on Monday, May 4, 2026 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
