Mrs. Gwendolyn Lowe Rosenbalm age 97, a resident of Rural Hall, North Carolina; formerly of Thorpe, West Virginia, peacefully departed this life early, on Friday, January 17, 2025 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
She was born in Stokes County, North Carolina on July 3, 1927 and the daughter of Moyer and Nettie Welch Lowe. She had attended Gary District High School and was a graduate of Douglas High School in Leaksville, North Carolina. Mrs. Gwen as she was affectionately known in West Virginia and while in North Carolina, she was known as Mrs. Duke, Granny and "Maw-Maw." She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Thorpe where she had served as a Choir and Missionary Circle member and an Usher. Also, she was faithful to First Baptist Church in Wilcoe, West Virginia, where her family attended and are members. She was a member of the WV Chapter Gary Alumni, attended the McDowell Commission on Aging and the Thorpe Loyal Homemakers. Mrs. Gwen is the last surviving member of the Stoneville, North Carolina Golden Girls' Club.
In addition to her parents, Moyer and Nettie, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Coot" Rosenbalm, grand-daughter, Tosha Michelle Rosenbalm, her brother, Nathaniel Lowe; parents-in-love, Robert and Kate Rosenbalm and her son-in-love, Gerald Leroy Johnson.
She leaves cherished, treasured memories of her well lived life to her daughter, Dolores Johnson of Gary, West Virginia; her daughter/grand-daughter, Robin Rosenbalm of Winston -Salem, two special great-grand-daughters, whom she helped raise Sydnei Rosenbalm of Winston-Salem and Ryanne Rosenbalm of Charlotte, North Carolina and a great-great-grand-daughter, Zuri Leigh Rosenbalm Goodloe. Her only sister, Mildred Smith of Algoma, West Virginia; three sisters-in-love: Bessie Ridgely of Sykesville, Maryland, Barbara Rosenbalm of Ellicott City, Maryland and Sarah Lowe of Oak Park, Michigan; two special nieces, Jo Ann Smith of Algoma and Natalie Patterson of Oak Park; many nephews and nieces on both sides of the family that she helped raise and the many neighborhood children whom she played a big part in their lives; which includes, Karen "Khaki" Brown Leonard and Yvonne Johnson; her Stoneville, North Carolina "TV buddies," Carolyn, Joan and Linda Scales and Penney Hairston and her West Virginia "TV buddies," Traci Allison, Lynn Curtis, Connie Keith and while in North Carolina, Michelle Burnett.
Mrs. Rosenbalm's Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at First Baptist Church 159 Prosperity Road in Wilcoe, West Virginia with the Reverend David Cooper officiating, the Reverends: Timothy Hairston, George Masterson and Jerome Powell assisting. Visitation on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Church, and 1:00 PM on Sunday, until time of Service. Entombment, 11:00 AM on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia. Her nephews, nieces and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, West Virginia.
