Hazel Regina “Gina” (Washington) Banks, 60, was called to her heavenly home on June 9, 2025. Gina was born on December 2,1964 to the late Lillian (Graham) Washington and Wilmore “Bill” Washington. She graduated from Williamson High School in 1983. Gina worked as a paralegal for the Department of Health and Human Resources until her retirement after 21 years of service. Gina was a sweet soul who truly touched the lives of everyone she met. She found joy in going on walks with her friends, coaching cheer in the Williamson buddy league, studying her family’s history, and having scary movie nights with her family. Gina was a wonderful wife, mother and Gigi. She poured an abundance of love into her family and was present for all their extracurricular activities. Most of all, she was a woman of God and served him fully. She was a faithful member of Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she once served as treasurer. She was awarded Most Outstanding Sunday School Teacher by the West Virginia Baptist State Convention for her dedication to her youth class. She also devoted many years to serving as the youth director of the Tug River District.
She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Virdell Banks; children, Olivia (Josh) Nelson, Austin (Emily) Banks, Aaron Banks, and Leah Banks; grandchildren, Leia Nelson, Harper Nelson, Parker Nelson, Rylee Nelson, and Gia Banks; brothers and sisters, Wilmore (Tina) Washington Jr., Jerome Washington, Calvin (Vanessa) Washington, Diane (Mitchell) Turner, and Manuel Washington; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
On Saturday, June 21, 2025, family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Logan Street First Baptist Church, 620 Logan Street, Williamson, West Virginia, where Reverend Gerald Dotson serves as Pastor. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow. Reverend Frank Jones will officiate. Burial will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Maher, West Virginia following the funeral service. Pallbearers include Calvin Washington, Manuel Washington, Wilmore Washington Jr., Mitchell Turner, Michael Johnson and Henry Moore. Honorary pallbearer will be Bobby Joe Jackson.
