Helen Alexander Obituary

Mrs. Helen Louise Caughman Alexander entered this life on December 13, 1924  and departed this life on July 6, 2022. She wore many hats to her family and friends. The start of the hats was her as matriarch.  She was the oldest living member of the Williams family. The other hats were Historian, Educator, Storyteller, “Mother,” Sister, Wife, Friend, and a  Fabulous Aunt.  She had no children of her own, but she made a connection with all children by mothering them and encouraging them; especially her nieces and nephews.

Helen after graduating from high school attended Morris Harvey College in Harper’s Ferry WV, where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics. She later attended the University of Illinois and obtained her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught in her lifetime in three states (WV, AL, IL). She held the highest degree in the family and encouraged all of us to do the same.

While in Chicago, she met her husband, Ray Alexander from Moulton, Al. She married him and told us that after 50 years she was going to trade him in but she remained married to him until his departure from this life on July 18,2006. She stayed steadfast in the care of her mother, Pearl Brannon until she passed away in March 2003. Her father was killed in a mining accident when she was a young child.

Her sister (Marjorie Richardson Caughman Daniels) and children (James, Peacolia, Sterrett, and Raynette) was her life. She lived and provided for them all. Eleven months she laid to rest her. Her sister was married and she had them to think it was a birthday party until the pastor arrived on the porch and explained the reason he was there and that was to marry Marjorie. She was the catalyst for things “jumping off.”

Her life revolved around Church from a very early existence and until the last breath she took. I must mention that during her life time she was able to see a black President and a black female Vice President.

Helen spent the last eight years with Raynette Danieis and Children (Clifton, D’Mitri, Micah.) As we coin the phrase “RET TO GO” describes her best.

Auntie, as we affectionately called her, we mourn the ”Oak Tree” but we know that her branches and roots will remain strong and encouraged. She leaves behind four generations of nieces and nephews that loved her and will cherish her memory.  She is now gone but never forgotten.  Mrs. Alexander's Homegoing Celebration Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, July 11, 2022 at the Full Gospel Assembly Church 2101 10th Avenue in Huntington, WV, with the Bishop Samuel R. Moore officiating.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be held in Alabama.  Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, WV.
