Helen Barnes Obituary

Mrs. Helen K. Barnes age 93 departed this life on February 16, 2023, in Genesis Dunbar Center, Dunbar, WV.  She was born on December 8, 1929 in Lynchburg, VA to the late Aaron and Nellie Hosley Nowlin.  Helen grew up in Williamson, WV with her parents and siblings.

She was employed at Williamson Memorial Hospital and worked in the Laundry and Linen Services Department for many years.

Helen had a strong faith and deep love for Christ and attended church regularly before her health failed her.  She was always willing and ready to share Christ with others. She loved reading and studying the Bible. She was an avid follower of Joyce Meyers and Creflo Dollar. She enjoyed watching their services on television and reading Joyce’s inspirational books and devotionals.

Helen was full of wisdom and had a good sense of humor. She loved to watch old westerns (Rawhide, Bonanza, The Rifleman, The Lone Ranger, etc.)  In her earlier years, she loved to entertain and make home cooked meals for family and friends during the holidays. She was known for her delicious cakes that she baked from scratch. Some of her favorite foods and desserts included fish, meatloaf, fruit cake, chocolate candy, grapes, and Pepsi (her favorite soft drink).

She was soft spoken but did not mind expressing how she felt. She loved spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Mose Knox, her second husband, Johnny Barnes and her siblings: Maggie Hampton and Willis “Willie” Nowlin, sister-in-law, Arnita “Candy” Nowlin, and nephews: Richard Bryant and Donald Gene Fouse. She was the last surviving member of her original family.

Helen leaves a lifetime of cherished memories to her nephews: Ricky and Jimmy Hosley of Williamson, WV, Nathan McMillian, Robert “Toppie” Knox (Reesee) of Holden, WV and Johnny (Bridgett) Willis of Northport, AL, and nieces: Brenda Hosley of Louisville, KY, Nancy Hosley of Williamson, WV, Jackie (James) Olbert of Logan, WV, Rosalyn (George) Knox Lee of Cora, WV, Felicia (Robert) Knox Matthews of Huntington, WV, Nataline (Josh) Rhodes of South Williamson, KY, Norine Murphy of Columbus OH, her great-nephews: Vincent Fouse of Columbus, OH, Johnny Trey (Valarie) Willis of Vance, AL, Antonio “Tuffy” Willis of Vance, AL, X’ondre Willis of Belfry, KY, Johnny Alonzo Willis of Charleston, WV, Dakweon Willis and Keshean Rhodes of Williamson, WV, and great-nieces: Kathy and Cherie Fouse of Columbus, OH, Johna’ (Marcus) Johnson of Tuscaloosa, AL, Mikazia Rhodes of Charleston, WV, Xziah Rhodes of Williamson, WV, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her two special friends, Dottie Bradley of Williamson, WV and Janice A.
