James was born in Williamson, West Virginia on November 7, 1948 to his late parents, John L. and Katherine Hambrick.  He was the youngest of his three siblings; sister Laura Mae Hambrick-Jones and brother Charles Eugene Hambrick.

James was a member of Second Mt. James had a deep, but soft tone voice.  He was a dresser and would occasionally go out and socialize.

James was a father of two children, who he leaves to mourn; a son, Xavier D. Thompson of Pennsylvania, and a daughter, Krista Davis of Ohio; two grandchildren; a loving sister, Laura Mae (Reverend Frank) Jones; two nieces, Sabrina (Mike) Tufts of Cleveland, Ohio and Michelle Hambrick-Harris of Detroit, Michigan; a nephew, Christopher Hambrick and a host of great-great nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Logan Street First Baptist Church in Williamson, West Virginia, Reverend Gerald Dotson Pastor.  Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12 Noon with Reverend Frank Jones officiating.  Honorary Pallbears will be Virdell Banks, Rashawn Hambrick, Patrick Harris, Jr., Bobby Jo Jackson, Michael Johnson and Richard Wright.  Active Pallbearers will be Antreyo’ Hambrick, Eugene Hambrick, Kenneth Hambrick, Tony Hambrick and Vernon Hambrick.  Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher, West Virginia.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home, in Welch, West
