James "Jim" Smith Sr., age 90 of Roanoke, VA; formerly of Pageton, and Gary, WV, who peacefully departed this life on Monday, March 15, 2021 in the comforts of his home, surrounded by his family. He was born June 5, 1930 in Gary and one of twelve children born to the late Henry Sr. and Julia (Ward) Smith. He was a graduate of Gary District High School, a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA. He was a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church and later joined and served as a drummer at the Revival Center in Premier, WV under the Pastoral ship of Bishop Richard Gray Sr., his father-in-law. Jim as he was affectionately known supported his Community and local Churches. He was an avid hunter, who enjoyed both gardening and watching television; especially westerns, football games and movies. In addition to his parents, Henry Sr. and Julia, he was preceded in death by "the love of his life," Dolores E. Gray Smith, his wife and his eleven siblings: Sara Scales, Rufus, Jessie, Joseph, Charles and Henry Smith Jr., Josephine Smith Ross, Emma Smith Pope, Mable Smith Dodson, Margaret Smith Hale, Florence Smith Reed. Mr. Smith was the last surviving member of his original family. He will be remembered for the love and care he gave to his family; which includes his children: James "Monica" Smith of Bluefield, VA, Monique "Kevin" Brown of Maryland, Vanesha "Paul" Smith-Witt of Roanoke with whom he made his home and Tanjaneika "Qeshawn" Anderson of Virginia Beach, VA; his grand-kids: Kevin, Brandon, India, Azyshia, Maliya, Sasha, Jemerrah, Jaydean, Montrice, Zawanna, Montay, Deandre, Makalia, and Keonte'; great-grands: E'leyah, E'lyssa, Cairo, Preaston and Robert; several generations of nephews, nieces and cousins. Mr. Smith's Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, March 26. 2021 at Miracle Mt. Carmel Church of God in Kiimball, WV, with Pastor Anthony Blair, officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens 450 N. Courthouse Road in Princeton, WV. His Family will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers. A Revolving Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., until the time of Service. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, WV. (to leave online condolences: gregory-pagefh.com.)
