Jonathan Martin Harris Sr., was born in Blue Island, IL and the son of Camillia Harris-Hall and Alcorn Hall of Johnson City, TN. He was baptized at the age of nine, at Mt. Ebenezer Baptist Church in Algoma, WV, where he loved attending the Youth group under the leadership of Mrs. Shirley Merriweather. He participated in plays, programs and as a teenager was a team leader of the local Bible Bowl competition. He led the team to a championship due to his photographic memory of the Scriptures. He was an high honors graduate of Mount View High School in Welch, where he successfully completed both the Health Science and Technology and Upward Bound Programs. He was an honorably discharged Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and earned several associate degrees with honor from Mott Community College. In 2014, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree with honors in Biomedical Engineering at Baker College. He received several awards for his academic excellence and was a proud member of both the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and Empire Bethel Lodge No. 202. Jonathan enjoyed spending time with family and friends; especially his son and nephews. He often planned family trips and gatherings. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Inez McDaniel Harris-Dickerson; grandfather, Pastor Bennie D. Harris Jr., great-grandparents, Jennie an Samuel McDaniel and Bennie Harris Sr. and Mary M. Harris-Moore. In addition to his parents, Jonathan leaves cherished memories to his son, Jonathan Martin Harris Jr. of Flint, MI; his siblings, Antanina Hall and Ashley Hall (Anton) both of Johnson City; niece, Eboni Hall; nephews: Deontae Hall, Anton McKinney and Aiden McKinney; grandmother, Lorraine Harris, grandparents, Alcorn and Aurelia Hall; great-aunt, Dr. Carolyn Starling-Matthews; and a special friend, (his son's mother), Myesha Cannon her parents, Loretta and James Cannon; a special spiritual mother, Pastor Dorothy Vaught and a host of other family and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Restlawn Mausoleum Chapel 6605 New Hope Road, Bluewell, WV, with the Reverends: Timothy Hairston, Jerome Powell Sr. and Jerome Powell Jr. officiating. Burial rites will be conducted by the Mercer Honor Guard and Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
