Mr. Joseph E. Stigger age 77, of Bluefield, West Virginia; formerly of New York, peacefully departed this life on Friday, January 24, 2025 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. He was born in Jenkinjones, West Virginia, on August 3, 1947 into the loving parentage of John Robert and Rosa Lee (Saunders) Stigger. He attended public schools in McDowell County until he moved to Queens, New York to attend high school and to pursue his higher education. He received his Bachelor's Degree from York College and his Master's Degree from Adelphi University both located in New York.
Joseph was an honorably discharged Veteran, having served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He held many jobs before he began his teaching career. He believed in hard work, holding two jobs at a time most of his career. He was spiritual but not a religious man. To honor his Mother, he would read one verse from the Bible every day and share it with whomever he came in contact with. He was an avid reader in search of truth and helped to make the world a much better place, by helping to educate others.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, John Robert and Elder Rosa Lee Stigger; his sister, Ernestine E. Stigger and his four brothers: Orlander E., Robert L., Philip Sr., and John D. Stigger and his mother-in-law, Blanche E. Mays. He was the last surviving member of his original,Stigger family.
Joseph leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted wife of eight years, Luleen N. Mays Stigger of the home; one daughter, Talibah Lee Stigger and his bonus kids, Tailynn Tindall Shryock (Miles) and Ken James; his bonus grand-kids; several generations of nephews and nieces; his god-daughter, Cassandra Nickerson; his neighbors and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 14, 2025 at the Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia with Elder Edwin Ogburn officiating.. Burial Rites will be performed by the Mercer County Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, West Virginia.
