Mary L. Hudson Obituary

Ms. Mary Lou Hudson a long time resident of Welch, West Virginia; formerly of Coalwood, West Virginia was born on the 20th day of January, 1934 in Greensboro, Alabama into the very loving parentage of the late John Daniel and Katherine Marie (Love) Hudson.  At the age of 12, she was baptized and became a faithful member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Coalwood.  Mary Lou was a  1951 Graduate of Excelsior High School. She attended and successfully completed classes in both Human Resources and Sociology at Marshall University to help better enhance her working skills.  In 1988, she retired from the West Virginia Department of Employment Security (Job Force) in Welch, after being employed for 31 years as an Employment Security Technician.  In earlier years, she was the Financial Secretary and served as an Usher at Mt. Airy Baptist Church.  Also throughout the years, she attended Court Street United Methodist Church in Welch.  Mary Lou was a member and treasurer of the Excelsior Alumni and looked forward to the School reunions.  Mary Lou enjoyed shopping, watching soap operas and was known as an avid reader.  She was a "people person" and while able,  filled her days spending time with her family and friends; either in person or by telephone.  After retiring, she served as a Volunteer at the McDowell Public Library in Welch for several years.  Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, her maternal grandparents, Sam and Lula Love and her paternal grandparents, Ed and Delia Hudson.  Mary Lou was the last surviving member of her original family, as she peacefully departed this life early on Monday, October 31, 2022 in the Wyoming Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in New Richmond, West Virginia, following declining health.   Mary Lou will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.  She leaves cherished memories to her very special cousins:  Patricia H. Perdue, her caregiver of Welch, Octavia (Curtis) Maxwell of Cleveland, Ohio, Bernice Griffith and Dr. Constance Edwards both of Chicago, Illinois; and a host of special cousins in Alabama, Chicago, Cleveland, and Pennsylvania and a host of special friends.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church 125 Virginia Avenue in Welch, with the Reverend George Masterson officiating.  Entombment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum 6604 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the time of Service.  Her Relatives and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers.  Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
