Melvin A. Slade Sr.

Melvin A. Slade Sr., age 75 who resided at 127 Empire Street in Kimball, WV departed this life on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Welch Community Hospital in Welch, WV.  He was born in Kimball on the 30th day of May, 1946 and the son of the late William W. Sr. and Virgie L. (Dallas) Slade.  He was a graduate of Kimball High School and had lived in Mt. Vernon, NY for several years.  Melvin was known as a skilled Contractor and a gardener with a "green thumb."  He was a member of Miracle Mt. Carmel Church of God in Kimball and for many years a faithful member of Midway-Shiloh Church in Keystone, WV.  In addition to his parents, William Sr., and Virgie, Melvin was preceded in death by one son Kareem and a grandson, Keonte; his brother, Rufus and three sisters:  Beverly, Evelyn and Sandra.  Melvin will be remembered for his heart of love and his willingness to help others.  He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving, devoted wife of 26 years, Teresa A. Slade of the home and their son, Melvin A. Slade III., of Bluefield, WV, Melvin A. Slade Jr., of Philadelphia, PA, Alvin Gravely of Kimball and Dwayne Slade; two brothers, William W. (Patricia) Slade Jr., of Princeton, WV and Garland R. (Sharon) Slade of North Carolina; three sisters: Joanne Smith, Vivian Stewart and Barbara J. Deveaux  all of Mt. Vernon; his grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; his many friends; which includes special friends: Lonnie Parker, Conner Braggs, Lloyd Lipscomb, Mike Bishop, Pastor Georgia Smith and a very special friend, whom he regarded as a daughter, Erica Craighead.  A Celebration of Life Service for Melvin A. Slade Sr., will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Miracle Mt. Carmel Church of God in Kimball with Pastor Anthony Blair officiating.  Interment at the Southwest Virginia Veterans' Cemetery, 5550 Bagging Plant Road in Dublin, VA.  Family and friends will serve as both Pallbearers and flower bearers.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m.  Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, (to leave online condolences:  gregory-pagefh.com.)  Please be advised both COVID Protocol and the wearing of masks will be followed.    .:
