Mentola Jackson, 88, of Williamson, West Virginia,departed this life on Monday, November 15, 2021 at Trinity Healthcare of Mingo, Inc. in Williamson, West Virginia.
She was born on February 9, 1933 in Winston Salem, North Carolina to the late Hobart and Mary Welch Joyce. She was married to the late James “Sonny” Jackson, Sr. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by three sons; James Jackson, Jr., James Oretha Jackson and James Dewey, Jr., and a sister, Lois Joyce Howard.
She graduated from Liberty High School and worked as a Social Worker for the State of West Virginia. She served as City Councilwoman for the City of Williamson . She was the director of the Southern West Virginia Action for Youth Center located on Vinson Street in Williamson, West Virginia. She was a member of Logan Street First Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Choir. She served as a volunteer at the annual Vacation Bible School where her delicious homemade chili was enjoyed by the children and staff.
She leaves cherished memories to her son, Terry (Marcella) Jackson, Sr. of Williamson, West Virginia and daughter, Josie (James) Watkins of Columbus, Ohio; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Logan Street First Baptist Church in Williamson, West Virginia. Reverend Gerald Dotson, pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. time of service. Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Flower Bearers will be Granddaughters. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher, West Virginia.
