Mikhael Olando "Lipps" Williams Jr., age 52 of Roanoke VA; formerly of Havaco, WV departed this life on Monday, January 6, 2025 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA. Mikhael Jr. is the son of Phirstina "Tina" and the late Mikhael O. Williams Sr .
Mikhael was educated in the McDowell County Public School System and was a 1991 graduate of Mount View High School in Welch, WV. While at Mount View, he played on the 1990 Golden Knights' State Championship Football Team and was also a member of the drum line of the Mount View Golden Knights' Band. He was selected for All-County, All-State and Coalfield Conference Football Teams and was also a 3rd place winner of the Hunt Award for best defensive football player in the State. After graduation, he attended West Virginia Institute of Technology in Montgomery, WV, where he was a member of the football team.
Mikhael started his sports career playing little league football and baseball for the Goodson’s Braves. Local places that he was employed include: Long John Silvers, Goodson’s Supermarket and Cliff's Industries. Mikhael also was a former employee of Ross Industries in Rock Hill, SC; Atlas Cold Storage in Salem, VA and Wal-Mart Corp., in Salem, VA. He also joined the US Army, having served in Korea and was last stationed at Fort Liberty near Fayetteville, NC.
In his free time, Mikhael enjoyed fishing, playing cards, officiating little league games and watching Beat Bobby Flay on Food Network. He was an avid fan of the Las Vegas Raiders and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He was a member of the Kimball Masonic Lodge #13 in Kimball, WV.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mikhael O. Williams, Sr., his paternal grandparents Paul and Susie Williams and Alma Kelly formerly of O’toole; WV; his maternal grandparents Otis and Annie Childrey of Havaco, WV and Mary Elizabeth Hightower formerly of Wilcoe, WV and maternal great- grandmother, Jeanette Hightower, Wilcoe, WV. He was also preceded in death by his uncle, Alfred Kelly of Amsterdam, Netherlands; his aunts: Mary Safford of Bluefield, WV; Nora Alston of Philadelphia, PA; Pernie Brown of Havaco and his special great- aunt, Delia Gentry of Concord, NC.
He leaves cherished memories to his mother, Phirstina "Tina" Williams of Mooresville, NC: sisters, Valeena "Pooh" McLaughlin of Mint Hill, NC and Tarra Williams of Mooresville, NC; his daughters, Chantel Williams-Jones and Sasha Mayo (wife Sheriricka) of Greensboro, NC; his grandchildren Leiana Williams, Knevada Jones, Chani'ia Jones, and Aja Presley all of Greensboro NC; his niece, Tynarra McLaughlin of Concord, NC; nephew, Micah McLaughlin of Havaco, WV; great-niece and great-nephew, Kashton and Journee McLaughlin both of Havaco, WV; his uncle, Charles Williams Sr. of Bluefield, WV; his best friend, Terry Vineyard of Concord, NC and special cousin/brother, Earnest Baytops of Roanoke, VA; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
