Mrs. Geraldine L. Mathews resided in Bluefield, West Virginia and was formerly of Kyle, West Virginia. She departed this life on Monday, January 12, 2026 in the Bluefield Regional Medical Center ER, in Bluefield, West Virginia, following illness.
She was born in Kyle on the 30th day of November in 1940 and the daughter of James T. and Annie Manns Lemons. After completing her high school education, she became a homemaker. For many, many years, she was a faithful member of Mercy Seat Baptist Church in Kyle; which is her Family's home Church.
She was an excellent cook and enjoyed serving others with her cooking skills and talents. At home, Church or during her children's school years, she cooked and baked for PTA projects or wherever needed. She was known as a "Fashionista," as she never missed the opportunity to shop and to dress well. She loved the Lord, her family, Church and friends and always lived by, "see the best in others." Even though her days were filled with caring for her family; she was employed by Mountain Heart Daycare in Princeton, West Virginia, for a number of years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Mathews; her father, James, her mother, Annie and her stepfather, Alphonso Brown; one son, Robert Lemons, one daughter, Jerri Moore and ten of her siblings.
Geraldine Lemons Mathews leaves her earthly life time of cherished memories to her children: Faye Lemons of Bluefield, Vada and his wife, Cheri Lemons of Columbus, Ohio, Debra Lemons of Bluefield, with whom she made her home; Dorothy Lemons of Bluefield, Wilma (Darrell Ward) Clements of Bluefield, Tory Matthews of Bluefield and Tiffany and her husband, Deon Joyce of Kernersville, North Carolina; her sisters: Margaretta Thomas of Columbus, Ohio, Barbara and her husband, Leonard Mathews of Detroit, Michigan and Margaret Johnson of Kyle; a special granddaughter, whom she raised, Shana Clements and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, whom she dearly loved; a special nephew, Jeffery Mathews, her other nephews and nieces; several cousins and a special friend, Rose (Roland) Henderson and her special helper, Tyrese Harrison.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Mrs. Mathews at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 23, 2026 at Mercy Seat Baptist Church in Kyle with Pastor Walter E. Clay officiating. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, at the Church. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, West Virginia.
