Mrs. Monica Y. Headen-Golden Obituary

Mrs. Monica Y. Headen-Golden, a resident of Gary, IN; formerly of Havaco, WV, who passed away in Gary, following a  lengthy illness on May 17, 2020.  Monica went home to be with the Lord.  She was born on August 16,1963 in Mount Vernon, New York to Jerry and Jean Headen.

At an early age, Monica moved to Havaco, West Virginia. She was a member of Mt. Zion Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Havaco, West Virginia, where she was baptized under the leadership of Bishop Harold D. Beaver.  She attended McDowell County Schools and was a 1981 graduate of Mount View High School. Upon graduation from high school she attended Bluefield State College and Concord University.

After completing college, Monica relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina and became employed at GE Capital where she worked for many years before relocating to Gary, Indiana.  For the past 17 years, Monica was employed by DaVita Dialysis where she was the number one Administrative Assistant; to know her is to know that she loved her job inside and out. She worked at DaVita until her health began to decline.

While living in Indiana, Monica met and married the love of her life, Johnny Golden.  Together they welcomed into their home and raised as their own, Tiffany, Isaiah, Anthony, Adrian, Latavia Alexander and Andreena Campbell.  She was also blessed to be the grandmother of two beautiful grandchildren, London and Sincere Alexander.

Monica loved serving the Lord and going to church. She was a faithful member of Family Christian Center of Munster, Indiana under the leadership of Pastor Steve Munsey. Monica also loved cooking and being in competition with her mother as to whose food tasted the best.  Sometimes she would call her mom with her husband on the line and Jean would playfully change everything on Monica’s menu without Monica even realizing it. Let’s not forget, she loved watching Monday Night Football and her Dallas Cowboys, where she would put on her jersey, cover up in her blanket, and talk mess about the other teams. Monica loved kids. Any child that she came in contact with had a pair of bangles on their wrist.

She was preceded in passing by her maternal grandparents, Walter and Ether Brown formerly of Havaco, West Virginia and her paternal grandparents, Will and Bell Headen formerly of Pinehurst, North Carolina and her maternal great grandmother Willie Walls formerly of Havaco, West Virginia. She was also preceded in death by her uncles Alex and Walter Brown Jr. and Willie, Larry and Edward Headen, her aunts Bonnie and Hazel Brown and her cousins Jennifer and Jermaine Brown.

She leaves to mourn her husband, Johnnie Golden of Gary, IN, her parents, Jerry and Jean Headen of Havaco, WV, four brothers, Patrice (Angie) Taylor of Southern Pines, NC and Jerry, Terry and DeShawn Headen all of Havaco, WV, her sister Jehda Brown of Fayetteville, NC and her sister/cousin Debra Belle of Perry, GA,  her aunts and uncles that she loved so much Luther (Shirley) Headen and Evelyn Brisbon of Pinehurst NC, Kenneth (Pernie) Brown, Darryl (Margaret) Brown, Buford (Wilma Brown (her favorites) all of Havaco, WV, Carol Neeley (her caretaker) of Merrillville IN, Sharon Brown of Perry, Georgia and Harold Brown of Gary, West Virginia and her caregiver Isaac Neely of Merrillville, IN.
