Norman Phillips, 74, of Williamson, West Virginia departed this life on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Tug Valley ARH Regional Medical Center in South Williamson, Kentucky. He was born on August 8, 1949 in Williamson, West Virginia to the late Isom Phillips and Marie Obey Phillips.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Willis Phillips; brothers, Earnest Ray, Robert and Isom, II Phillips; sister, Mollie Starling and a grandson, Zachary Shirk.
He attended Liberty High School and graduated from Williamson High School where he played sports. Following graduation, he joined the United States Army. He was an avid bowler. He was employed with the N & W Railroad as an Engineer, and employed with Mingo County Board of Education as a Bus Driver. He was a member of Christ Temple Church in Williamson, West Virginia.
To cherish his memories are three sons, Johnathan Hill-Phillips, Zander Phillips and Malachi Phillips all of the home; four daughters, Tonya Strother of Middletown, Ohio; LaTashia Thaxton of Cincinnati, Ohio; Susan Renee Shirk of Columbus, Ohio and Makayla Phillips of the home; one brother, Jackie (Sheila) Phillips of Tennessee and one sister, Arlet Eldridge of Williamson, West Virginia; six grandchildren, Christian, Anthony, II and Drake Strother, Heavahn Thaxton-Isham, Evan Shirk, Monique Dotson Elkins; four great-grandchildren; special nephew, Tony Robinson, who was like a son; other nieces and nephews whom he loved and relatives and friends.
Services will be held on Thursday at 12 Noon at Christ Temple Church with Elder Thomas Moore officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, West Virginia.
Active Pallbearers will be Grandchildren & Nephews. Honorary Pallbearers are Gary Baker, Burnett Dotson, Paul Joyce, Johnny Shepherd, Jerry and Terry Warren and Richard Wright, Sr.
