Obituary

Percy James Henderson, formerly of Taylorsville, N.C. departed this life on Friday, November 25, 2022 in Columbia, SC surrounded by his loving family.  Percy was born on February 22, 1950, via midwife in Powhatan, WV.  He was the son of the late Walter and Helen Hairston Henderson. Percy was a graduate of Elkhorn High School, Class of 1968. He was a Veteran of the US Army, Vietnam War Era from 1968-1970.  He attended Beckley College and later graduated from West Virginia State College with a Business Degree. Over the course of his lifetime he lived in Dayton, OH and was a Greyhound bus driver; Macon, GA  worked as an executive cook with Quincy’s Family Steakhouse; while living in Clarksville, TN was employed with GE Appliances and for over 26 years lived in Taylorsville, NC and was employed for the past 10 years with Tyson Foods in Conover, NC. Percy spent the last 15 months in the home of his loving niece and caregiver, Mrs. Rhonda Henderson-Cox (Mark) during his recovery from an injury. He was a faithful member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church of Arlington, WV. Percy was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert Lee (Peterball) / (Mary) Henderson and sister, Mary Jane (Frank) Dockery / (Harold) Wallington. Percy will be remembered as a wonderful brother, brother-in-law, Uncle, cousin and great Uncle. He will be greatly missed by his family and closest friends. To cherish his best memories are his sister, Eddie Mae (George) Gravely of Powhatan and brother, Roland (his “Sis in Love," Rose) Henderson of Powhatan. Other survivors include a host of devoted nieces, nephews and dearest friends, Randall (Roxy) Wright of Elkhorn, WV, William (Charmie) Carrington of Keystone, WV, Larry Carrington of Hebron, OH and Lucy Watson of Taylorsville, NC. His Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Kyle, WV with the Elder Samuel Burger officiating.  Entombment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, WV, where Military Rites will be conducted.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM.  Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
