Phalanders F. "Phil" Law age 79, of Welch, West Virginia, departed this life on Friday, August 9, 2024 in the Mercer Healthcare Center in Bluefield, West Virginia. He was born in Keystone, West Virginia on the 6th day of March, 1945, into the parentage of Millard Filmore and Helen Scales Law. After his family moved to Kimball, West Virginia, he attended and was a 1963 graduate of Kimball High School. Phil was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. He was a Certified Nursing Assistant, and retired after many years at Welch Community Hospital. He was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Welch, where he had served as Deacon, a former Choir member and custodian. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 8, in Welch. He was true to his belief and lived by "you are suppose to participate," as he enjoyed helping others whenever needed. For several years, he served as a volunteer with Hospice Compassus in Welch and continued, after the Office relocated to Princeton, West Virginia. During the Christmas holidays, he performed with the "Feast of Carols," hosted by the Welch United Methodist Church and was a "Bell Ringer," for the Salvation Army. Phil found joy in singing and uplifting the spirits of others, attending Church Services and dressing up and being out in the Community. He was an avid sports' fan of the Dallas Cowboys, the LA Lakers and the Cincinnati Reds. Attending the Class reunions, dancing and being photographed were also his enjoyment in life. In addition to his parents, Millard and Helen, he was preceded in death by four of his brothers: James Whiteside, Jr., Howard Bruce Law, Franza Franklin Law and Johnny M. Law. He leaves cherished memories to his devoted wife of 31 years, Mary "Louise" Law; his daughter, Ta-Tisha Law of Fairmont, West Virginia; two stepsons, Minister Ronald (Janet) Cummings of Kimball, West Virginia and Minister Timothy (Evelin) Cummings of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren, Sierra Martin and Tarran Boda; a special grandson, Terrence (Robin) Hayes and his five brothers: Luster L. Law of King, North Carolina, Ophir Zarnett (Deborah) Law of District Heights, Maryland, Amon L. Law of Raleigh, North Carolina, Decota (Jacquelyn) Law of Sandston, Virginia and Glen D. Law of Dover, Delaware; one brother-in-law, Reverend Joseph Chatten and two sisters-in-law, Rhonda Wray and Minister LeDale Chatten; a host of step-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives; which includes the Cummings and Martin family and his many friends in the community and surrounding areas. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 16, 2024 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church 135 Court Street in Welch, with the Reverend George Masterson officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Burial rites will be conducted by the Mercer County Honor Guard. Interment 1:00 PM, on Monday, August 19, 2024 at the Southwest Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Virginia. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
