Purcell A. Lash Jr.

Purcell Anthony Lash Jr., age 46 of Welch, WV, who departed this life on Friday, August 27, 2021 at his residence.  He was born in Welch on the 19th day of January, 1975, into the loving parentage of Purcell A. Sr., and Estrellita (Joyce) Lash.  Purcell Jr., was a graduate of Mount View High School and furthered his education at Bluefield State College. He was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Welch and while living in Elkhorn, WV attended Upland Missionary Baptist Church.  For a number of years, he was employed by the McDowell County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy, had worked at Superior Wells in Kimball, WV and was last employed as a Police Officer for the City of Keystone, WV.  Also, he was a member of the Welch National Guard.  Purcell Jr., enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was known as an avid "Star Trek" fan.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Uail and Louise Joyce and paternal grandparents, Julius and Gladola Lash.  He leaves cherished memories to his father, Purcell Sr. of  Charlotte, NC and his mother, Estrellita J. Johnson of Fort Mill, SC; his three sons: Purcell A. Lash III., of Bluefield, WV, Julius L. Lash Sr., and Stephen K. Lash both of Princeton, WV; his grandchildren:  Purcell IV., Madilyn, Zymier, Wren, Julius Jr., and Natalia; his former wife, and the mother of his sons, Tonya Lee-Lash of Charlotte; two sisters, Adriana Lash of Charlotte and Waynette Johnson of Fort Mill; three nieces:  Chantele, Jasmine and Leia Lash; several aunts and uncles; many cousins and friends; which includes several childhood friends.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Upland Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend George Masterson officiating.  Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, WV, where burial rites will be performed by the WV Honor Guard.  Family and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., until the time of Service at the Church.  Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, (to leave online condolences:  gregory-pagefh.com.).Please be advised, COVID protocol will be followed.
