Rachel Lipford Obituary

Mrs. Rachel Witcher Lipford age 97, a long time resident at 93 Cherokee Road in Algoma, West Virginia was born in Welch, West Virginia, August 12, 1925, and the daughter of Flournoy L. Sr. and Lucy E. (Breedlove) Witcher.  Rachel completed her education at Kimball High School and had worked for a number of years.  She was a life long member of Little Rock Church of Christ in Algoma and faithfully served, until declining health as President of both the Missionary Society and Ministers & Deacons Wives, was a Sunday School and ABYPU teacher and the Church Clerk.  Sister Rachel loved the Lord and her passion was singing the Songs of Zion and beating her tambourine.  For many, many years she was known as the "candy lady," as she sold candy from the back of her vehicle to help support the Church and the Building Fund.   Her most favorite pastimes were spent watching television game shows and working word search puzzles.  Also, she enjoyed cooking.  Sister Rachel had lived in Algoma most of her adult life and in December of 2022 became a resident of the Mercer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bluefield, West Virginia, where she departed this life on Friday, February 3, 2023.  She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Flournoy Sr., and Lucy; her husband, James Lipford and her five brothers:  Nathaniel, Flournoy Jr., Eugene, Felix and Wade Witcher; her sisters, Vera, Rose and Martha Witcher and Seronia Clark; her son-in-law, Ray Barrett Sr., grandson, Ray Barrett Jr., and a sister-in-law, Lillian Hazzard.   She is survived by a daughter she helped raise, Sheila Barrett of Texas; a granddaughter, Sheilaina Barrett; two devoted sisters, Zinola and her husband, Roosevelt Gilbert of Columbus, Ohio and Inez Carter of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one aunt, Annie M. Watkins of Algoma and a sister-in-law,  Easter Mae Witcher of Algoma and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins; her Church family, neighbors and friends.   A Service in Remembrance of her well lived life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, West Virginia with District Elder Joseph Saunders officiating.  Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
