The Reverend Harold P. "Pledge" Calloway Sr., age 81, a long time resident of Elkhorn, WV, who peacefully departed this life on Thursday, December 3, 2020 in the comforts of his home. He was born June 20, 1939 to the late Charles and Esther Calloway of Elkhorn (Coppers Hill). He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lolita Brooks; four brothers: Glenn, Joseph "JD," Edward and Claude Calloway; three sisters: Juanita Calloway, Bernice Calloway and Garnetta Williams; his father-in-law, Henry Sr. and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Martin and a special niece, Karen Calloway. He was the Pastor of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Maybeury, WV, for 28 years where he faithfully served until the time of his illness. He retired after 35 years as a coal miner and a member of both the UMWA and Local No. 6196 in Keystone, WV. In addition, he was a member of the Elkhorn High School Alumni and held several positions within the Flat Top Baptist Association. He was a graduate of Elkhorn High School, where he had played on both the basketball and football teams. As a young adult, he played baseball for many years and coached Little League Baseball. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, who enjoyed these sports with his buddies: Henry Martin Jr., Seward Bush, James Fowler and Dillard Totten. He never gave up on his Cleveland Browns. He is survived by and will be dearly missed by his wife of 57 years, Geraldine Virginia Martin Calloway; daughters, Sandra Calloway and Carole Calloway both of Columbus, OH and son, Harold P. (Dianne) Calloway Jr. of Hampton, VA; sister, Tonie A. (Richard) Holland, sisters-in-law: Nonnie (Dan) Carter, Charlotte (James) Rice, Ernestine (Richard) Jones, Henrietta Holman and Carol Martin; brothers-in-law: Dr. James T. Martin, Henry (Sue) Martin Jr., and Darryl (Evelyn) Martin; seven grandchildren: Rickia, Nichole, Brooke, Cierra, Asan, Martel and Gary. He will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; other close relatives and many friends. (Due to COVID-19 restrictions) both the Funeral and Entombment Services for Pastor Calloway with only his immediate Family in attendance on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the Upland Missionary Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in Restlawn Mausoleum Chapel, Bluewell, WV. On Thursday, December 10, 2020 a (public) Revolving Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., at Upland Missionary Baptist Church. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, WV, (to leave online condolences: gregory-pagefh.com.) Social distancing and wearing of masks will be observed.
