Reverend James D. "JR" Crawley Jr., age 42, of Bluefield, West Virginia, formerly of Elkhorn, West Virginia, went from labor to reward on Friday,

May 12, 2023 in Roanoke, Virginia at the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. 

He was born July 11, 1980, and was the son of James D. "Jimmie" Crawley Sr. of Elkhorn and the late Barbara G. Walker Crawley. JR, as he was known to family and friends, was a 1998 graduate of Mount View High School. He furthered his education at Bluefield State College and was a graduate of the American National University in Princeton, West Virginia. 

JR was formerly employed by KTI LTD Trucking in Pulaski, Virginia; Abilene Trucking in Wytheville, Virginia and the West Virginia Division of Highways. At the time of his passing, he was employed by Lazer Logistics Gatorade Plant in Wytheville. 

He joined Upland Baptist Church at a young age and served as Superintendent of the Sunday School, an Usher and a member of New Direction Choir.  JR loved the Lord and accepted his call into ministry at Upland under the leadership of the late Pastor James Crosier.  Reverend Crawley was a member of and served as assistant Pastor at Midway Church of Christ in Tazewell, Virginia.  He was ordained June 13, 2021 by the late Reverend Donald Dykes.

JR’s favorite hobbies were cars and trains.  He loved attending car shows but the  highlight of his life was when he had the experience of “sitting behind the throttle of NW Class J611 and running her.”. 

In addition to his mother, Barbara, JR was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Crosier Crawley; one infant daughter Jordan, infant sister, Kristina; his maternal grandparents, Junior "Sack" and Dorothy Walker and paternal grandparents, William and Margaret Crawley. 

JR leaves a lifetime of cherished memories to his father, James "Jimmie," his son, Tian C. Crawley, two step-daughters, Shikyra Crosier and Valerie Simpson all of the home; one grandson, Darious McNeely; one brother, James D. (Angie) Clifton of Cincinnati, Ohio; his sisters, Demonica Clifton of Cincinnati and Leann Adams of Richmond, Virginia; step-granddaughter, Arykiah "Puff" Rowe; his aunts Patricia (Wayne) Weaver, Janice Neal, Faye (Reverend Tim) Hairston, Denise Mahone, Sandra Massenburg and Barbara “Peaches” Hairston; special uncle Gerald (Zerita) Andrews; his cousin crew who he talked to daily (Joseph, David, Erica, Steven & Angie); his god-sister; Traci Johnson, his brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces & nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

On Friday, June 2, 2023 Visitation 6-8 PM, at Upland Baptist Church.  A Celebration of a well lived life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Greater Mount Zion Church 104 Park Street in Bluefield, West Virginia with Reverend Tim Hairston eulogist, Reverend Dane Moore presiding and Reverend James Green and Reverend Jerome Powell assisting.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.  Interment on Monday, June 5, 2023 12:00 noon, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens 450 Courthouse Road in Princeton. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
