Robert Cummings

Robert J. "Fats" Cummings age 77, a life long resident of Gary, WV, who departed this life on Saturday, February 8, 2020 in CAMC General Division in Charleston, WV, following a lengthy illness. Robert was born November 10, 1942 in Gary, and the son of the late Bernice Cummings.  He completed his education and worked at U.S. Steel coalmines for 17 years before becoming an ambulance driver with the McDowell Ambulance Authority in Welch, WV.  Until failing health, he was a member of Miracle Mt. Carmel Church of God in Kimball, WV.  He was an avid fisherman, who enjoyed hunting and watching the Westerns.  In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Cummings and a great-niece, Melah Abbington.  Robert "Fats," leaves a lifetime of loving memories to his wife of 44 years, Yvonne "Juanita" Cummings; their children:  Veronica M. Cummings, Tara R. Cummings and Trinity J. Cummings all of Gary; his nephew, whom he raised and regarded as his son, Dwayne (Penny) Rash Sr. of Columbus, OH; his four grandchildren:  Rhianna, Cheylan, Omarion and Xzavier; his three siblings:  Alfred H. Cummings of Kentucky, Margaret (Melvin) Carr of Charlotte, NC and Regina Simmons of Bluefield, VA; several generations of nephews, nieces and cousins; his brothers and sisters-in-law; two goddaughters, Kishon Vineyard and Crystal Weaver both of Gary and two special friends, the Reverend J. T. (Rita) Horton of VA and Ronald (Priscilla) Dalton of Gary.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, February 14, 2020 at New Hope Fellowship Church in Thorpe, WV, with Pastor Anthony Blair, presiding, Ruling Elder Anthony J. Bell, Minister Karen Holliday and the Reverend J.T. Horton officiating and the Reverend George Masterson eulogist.  Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, WV.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., ,Mr.  Cummings family and friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearers.
